A QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response code) is a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code) designed to be read by smartphones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded may be text, a URL, or other data. (Wikipedia)

This is a smartphone function that either is built in the OS or can be downloaded as an App. The adoption of QR codes has been slower than expected.  There are number of free online QR code generators where users can create QR codes for their own needs. Some ideas of how it may be used follows.

The automotive industry will play a key role in developing, deploying and sharing sustainable energy solutions. There are several reasons for this. The CO2 regulations are becoming tighter in most countries and especially in big cities, The world supply of oil decreases over time, which will eventually drive up oil prices. 

Gartner: The industry’s efforts regarding alternative powertrain technologies and EVs in particular, will redirect companies’ technology investments. This will include the need to develop onboard energy management solutions (for example, control units for electric charge transfer and recharging), as well as offboard solutions, including data communication services to find charging stations. Infrastructure and service providers addressing the energy management aspects of EV ownership phase will also continue emerge. This will magnify the need for successful partnerships (for example, automakers partnering with service providers, utilities and governments), as well as collaboration and data management tools.

One example of  government regulations is the EU policies, white paper, in short:  30% of road freight over 300 km should  shift to other modes such as rail or waterborne transport by 2030, and more than 50% by 2050, facilitated by efficient and green freight corridors. To meet this goal will  also require appropriate infrastructure to be developed.

This statement by Gordon Moore at Intel was not really a law but an observation. In practical terms it means that computer speed and storage capacity ill be doubled every second year. The astonishing thing is that it has been valid since 1965, still is valid and will be valid for many years to come.

Doubling during a 2 year period may not seem so extremely impressive but counting from 1965 the effect is unimaginable.  We are talking talking about a yearly steady growth of ~41% during 55 years!

There are numerous examples of wireless technology including WiFi, WiMAX, 3G, 4G,  GPS units, Garage door openers , wireless computer mice, keyboards and Headset (telephone/computer), headphones, satellite television, broadcast television and cordless telephones.

The cost for managing mobile devices continues to grow as lack of standardization, but increased security and management needs, continue. There was widespread adoption of non-BlackBerry devices during the past year, a trend that is continuing with iPhone and Android devices capturing additional market share. Enterprises also need to manage the increasing use of media tablets. There are two main possible ways of handling this:

• Ways of sourcing, provisioning, securing and managing (including support) handheld mobile devices (primarily smartphones and media tablets) to a third party. This is often referred to as “Mobile Device Management” (MDM) Services
  
• The employees bring their own devices. The company provides compensation to employees with a certain amount and minimum requirements on the devices. This also requires special security arrangements to protect information and applications.
  

Mobile phones will surpass PC’s to become the dominant platform for personal computing. A combination of cloud services, better broadband and better user interfaces are the decisive factors for this. Mobile payment is increasingly  becoming more widespread.

People are now spending more time inside mobile applications on average than they are on the web, according to Flurry, a mobile analytics firm.

Flurry measures the time people spend in apps through its own direct analytics. It got numbers for the web using public data from comScore and Alexa. The analysis is somewhat imperfect, but even if you judge it solely on a directional basis you can see mobile apps are consuming more and more time.

So what are people doing in those apps? Gaming and social networking, which absorb 79% of people’s time, according to Flurry. The rest is news, entertainment, and other apps.

Another view of this question delivered by Gartner:
How many mobile devices will be used to buy for at least 10000€ ?

• 10% of mobiles will be reached during this decade
• 50% of mobiles will be reached the next decade

The most expensive item sold via eBay’s mobile app was an airplane: “1985 Piper PA-46-310P Malibu” for $265000. (Mashable.com)
